SanDisk Sansa Clip+ Review
Given the original SanDisk Sansa Clip is already one of the best budget music players on the market, it’s not surprising that the updated Sansa Clip + is not drastically different. It sports the same lightweight 1-inch, two-color OLED screen and excellent sound quality as its predecessor, and it has like a matchbox-size form factor. The important thing here, but: The addition of a MicroSD card slot allows users to add more storage on the cheap by buying blank cards (up to 16GB). That, combined with an improved clip with a stronger grip, solidifies the Clip + ‘s reputation as the best budget we’ve used music. The 4GB model we tested lists for $ 49.99, $ 10 less than what the original clip sells 4GB for the SanDisk website of this writing. It is also $ 30 less than in the same capacity iPod Shuffle, which has no screen or expansion slot.
There are a number of aesthetic changes in the Clip +, but for the most part, they are not drastically. At 2.2×1.4×0.6 inches (HWD), the new device is slightly thinner than its predecessor, and the glowing blue wheel is replaced with a similar size directional pad and the center button. The inclusion of the slot on the right has forced the volume buttons on the left, maybe a little annoyance for right-handers are used to adjust the volume with their thumbs. The power button has moved to the top, and with the removal of the Hold switch to lock the player from accidentally pressing is achieved by pressing and hold the Home button, located above the directional pad.

Navigation is so simple and intuitive as the original clip, but stock is reinforced with support not only MP3, WMA and Audible files but also WAV, FLAC and Ogg Vorbis. SanDisk allows 15 hours battery life, but we took a little over 12 hours after recharging the included mini-USB cable. (Incidentally, the cable is also how you get on the music player via simple drag and drop, like a flash drive.)
As we expected, after ditching the typical terrible bundled earbuds for a pair of V-Moda Vibes, the sound quality was excellent, just like the original clip. The onboard FM radio and voice recorder are valued additions, although stand-alone radio and voice recorders perform these tasks better.
If you like the (somewhat dubious) idea of buying music on small flash cards SanDisk also sells cards slotRadio 1,000-song, and album-specific slot cards with mainstream music artists. But we think that the idea of picking up a blank 8GB microSD card for about $ 15 (or a 16GB card for around $ 40) and load your own music is much more attractive. Although it is much easier than navigating files on the screen clear of the iPod Shuffle, we’re a bit annoying to find pages by hundreds of artists and albums in the four-line text-only screen. On the upside, the screen is bright enough to be readable even in direct sunlight.

Unfortunately, while the 4GB Clip + we tested comes in red, blue and black varieties, 2GB and 8GB versions come only in black. If SanDisk wants the court the fashion conscious iPod crowd, to give all three colors on all capacities.
If you do not have all the flashy multimedia features of the expensive HD media players like the Zune or the iPod Touch, or you’re looking for half budget music for the gym, the SanDisk Sansa Clip + is an excellent option for the price. Pairing of the 8-GB model with a 16GB microSD card will cost you about $ 120, and give you an impressive 24 GB of skip-free flash storage for music (or other files you want to charge for future access to a computer). Based on flash-based players only five years ago, topped out at 256, and sold for about $ 200, the Clip + is not just an impressive music player, but also a bold marker of technological progress.
