Harman Kardon HKTS 20BQ Review

Harman / Kardon is creating great speakers, and this set is not an exception. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive home theater speaker system, you can certainly do far worse than the HKTS 20BQ. This is a complete 5.1 system in a box and contains everything you need to make your system rock. The speakers have large response in the whole series, and the 8-inch subwoofer is sure to awaken.

I want to begin by saying that I am not an audiophile. I do not sit down and obsessed with frequency, and until recently I did not have a receiver that supports DTS. However, I love to watch movies and play games, and when I do I like to be able to everything that happens on the way the audio engineer intended me to hear. I think the H / K sure the sound quality to reproduce.

Of course, to test, I could not simply about science, the first thing I did was plug in the Blu-ray version of The Dark Knight, and ran it through the “Trip to County” scene. Absolutely amazing. The tonal range is perfect and the balance between the four satellite and center speaker is perfect. There are no clear levels is lacking, and the subwoofer just the right amount of subtle bass.

For the not so subtle sound, I had Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on my Xbox 360. Again, the sound was what I expected from a company like Harmon / Kardon. Explosions were sufficient window shaking, and the highs from when a grenade exploded in the vicinity of your head are all faithfully reproduced. The audio experience during gaming was excellent.

Music playback was good. There was no distortion at both ends of the range, and the speakers did not play well, whether or Carmina Burana Jump Around by House of Pain. All in all, no matter what the volume, the sound was perfect. I would say the only point that was really disappointing about the speakers, the wall supports. Ideally, you want the rear channels point to your best viewing location, and because of the way the speaker cable feeds into the bracket, which is very difficult. It can be done, but expect to spend a little time to think about how to mount the brackets.

Is the HKTS 20BQ worth the money? Well, I’m notoriously cheap, and I’m seriously considering purchasing a set of these for my home. The sound quality is great and the speakers do well no matter if you listen music, play games or listen your favorite movie. Retail is $ 799, but a saavy shopper can find them online for $ 699 at Amazon.
