Sony SS-B3000 Speakers Review
From time to time to modify in the middle of his tremendous efforts in consumer electronics meant the world to shake societies far and wide, the core and reduce sitting heads of state to its knees, Sony will still release a simple product that more talks, his legacy as to the present. Back in 1995, while Trinitron salad days and on the heels of the DVD format war and controversy, Sony MiniDisc Polk, an ex-engineer, a number of ES-speaker design. The first of these, the SS-M9, took the audiophile world by storm and ran neck and neck with some very good competitors.
A few years ago, Sony released the SS-B3000 Performance Bookshelf Speaker. Part of a series of speakers with an (unconfirmed) develops award-winning scientists, seems the SS-B3000′s model number of the company to take the original SS-3000 speakers released in 1965. Made in Japan, indicated that 90 plus pound monster real wood speaker cabinets, complex crossover, level control and a characteristic impedance of 16 ohms. With the current model presents a very different profile, the model name also seems strange, at least.
The $ 99.99 (MSRP per pair) SS-B3000 uses an 8-inch Kevlar-reinforced HOP (Highly Oriented Polyolefin) woofer, a 3″ Enhanced HOP midrange and a 1-inch Nano Fine tweeter. Sony claims H.O.P. stronger than the more commonly used polypropylene, the distribution and neutrality benefits of Kevlar, of course, were made known since the 1970s by B & W. In contrast to B & W but Sony used only strengthen Kevlar to the HOP, not as the core material of the driver. While Sony claims this hybrid approach achieved the best of both worlds, the skeptics might include the desire to reap the cosmetic benefits of Kevlar but also with a cheaper polymer related. Anyway, just see, Kevlar is a $ 100 speaker pretty convincing.

Sony claimed that his Nano Fine tweeter takes place kHz to 50. The SS-B3000 is much larger than a typical bookshelf speaker. For nearly 10 cm wide, 20 cm high and 10 cm deep, requires the SS-B3000 a bit more space and large bookshelf speakers. It’s the ‘tweener – not big enough to fit on the floor, too large to remain on a shelf, but a little awkward to put on stands Due to its size, the 14-plus pounds of SS-B3000 is not particularly difficult. but it is not easy with the SS-B3000 rear facing busy port and has plastic push-pin connectors -. cheap, but then again, the speaker is cheap, and all in all better budget in the drivers, which it seems he came. The SS-B3000 is finished in black vinyl, and overall look of the speaker an acceptable level of fit and finish.

The SS-B3000 presents a nominal fee with an 8 ohm 88dB efficiency. The speaker must meet a better quality of power at best, but it introduced more than satisfactory when the entry-level receivers and amplifiers, that probably most of the time they are paired driven.
Listening to the first, the SS-B3000s a surprisingly lively, clear sound with decent warmth and depth. Instruments, they did a little screaming and not quite there in the lower registers, with good overall consistency, but holes in the various parts of the spectrum. They cast a rather wide and deep sound stage and even offered some sharp image on some tracks, especially rock and electronic music. The heights were some lively and brittle in spots, and the move into the midrange speakers had trouble losing that quality to make voice and piano tracks properly. This particular aspect made listening a little tiring over a long period of time.

The midrange sounded a little hooty and even on some routes, particularly acoustic and classical material flat. Moving to the lower registers, turned the sound muddy and flabby, but held together well overall and kept the entire presentation. It must be noted, however, that this does not prevent individual errors that the speaker, maintaining the overall coherence and good audibility, on almost all types of material and even at high volume levels. Above all, a speaker not to draw attention to their individual errors at the expense of his consistency, speed and presentation. The SS-B3000 succeed in this regard. Frankly, reminded his general musicality and rhythm of my more expensive speakers.
Apparently Sony had in mind a complete design of these speakers, certainly with his share of mistakes, but also a firm idea of his sound. The SS-B3000 has flaws, no doubt. But it also presents music heard in a dynamic way that most of its long-term owners should know. From a purely critical standpoint, manages the SS-B3000 are only brought on an absolute basis. But if you remember his ridiculous, incredibly low price makes it a very strong impression. That’s right – $ 99.99 per pair.
Conclusion
The Sony SS-B3000 offers an impressive amount of engineering and sound quality for its very low price. It sounds like a budget speaker sometimes, but not open and not at the expense of their overall musicality and coherence. Its size may make non-standard placement a bit tricky, but on the other hand, offers more than enough sound to it in applications that push to go a little bookcase dare not monitored. After evaluating it strictly on a performance basis, you can not help but remind yourself of its price, and come! Even more impressed. It is no surprise that the SS-B3000 has sold so well and achieved such popularity. For $ 100, it’s worth a try and a benefit of the doubt. Then, after listening, get out of the box and throw you move too happy that they are in the house.
