Panasonic SC-BT230 Review
If you’re after a Blu-ray players have a longing and surround-sound system, but do not really have the space or money to buy off, could the Panasonic SC-BT230 to be good at what you are looking for. It is an all-in-one Blu-ray player and 5.1 surround sound system, complete with tiny satellite speakers.
The satellite speakers are amazingly small and should be easy to store discretely from one place and see. That will only leave the room for the slightly larger passive subwoofer find. Unfortunately, placing the speakers a bit of a problem, because Panasonic has equipped the speaker wire to finish with a proprietary connector on the Blu-ray player.
These are color coded to facilitate the insertion into the speakers, but make it incredibly hard to replace the cables. While the front speakers and subwoofer all have a healthy amount of cable, have the rear wheels to 7m. This should be good for most people, but it is easy to eat through the cable routing it to bookshelves and the like. Fortunately, all the speakers have spring terminals, so you could join normal speaker cable to a proprietary, if you need more length.
While many all-in-one systems, such as lack of features separates home cinema, Panasonic has managed to squeeze a load in this package compared. For starters, the impressively thin when you consider it also an amplifier and the Blu-ray player has an HDMI 1.4 output. While there is no support for 3D Blu-ray discs, it can also be an audio back channel (ARC) will be used on a compatible television, you can set the tone of your flat screen in the SC-BT230 pump and with the help of her surround sound.
In addition, there is an iPod dock under a flap in the top of the player hidden. It supports all modern iPods and lets you play music through speakers. In addition, there is a SDXC memory card slot, so you AVCHD video and JPEG photos directly from your digital camera or view of the camcorder.

If you prefer to view files stored on your network, there is a full DLNA client, connect to the UPnP server name when you add the player to your network via the integrated Ethernet port (optional 802.11g Wireless USB Adapter may be) in connection connect. It supports most popular file formats such as MP3 audio and DivX HD, MPEG-2 and AVCHD video. The interface is a bit simple, but it is easy enough to navigate.
Panasonic has also built its Viera Cast, which allows you to stream content from the Internet. It is rather lacking at the moment with YouTube and Picasa Web Albums, the most important features, but no on-demand TV, as iPlayer.
While all these things are nice extras, which make or break the SC-BT230 is, his performance in films. Things are certainly promising snap the sheet when you see that both are Dobly Digital True HD and DTS-HD MA lossless formats. This sounds a lot cleaner and livelier when compared to lossy audio codecs DVD’s.

While supporting these two standards up to 7.1 channels of sound, the SC-BT230 5.1 speaker configuration, no problem: Most living rooms, not enough room for the extra speakers and you have a large room for 7.1 sound systems are too different .
We fired some test DVDs to see how they sounded. In the fairness of the system, run the micro-satellite will have a pretty good job. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, we managed to hear all the subtle sounds of the tiles is torn from Hogwarts in the dragon scene. The move to the helicopter could blow up Shara, the balls bounce off clearly heard.
However, we felt that the speakers lacked punch and vibrancy, and made films feel a little flat. The bigger problem is that the passive subwoofer deliver not just this heart-stopping final thumps we expect in a movie. Overall, Panasonic has ensured that the sub to the speakers is balanced so that bass does not overpower everything, but we want a little more punch to rumble and low sounds, like explosions.

There is not much you can do to try and balance the sound the way you want it as it is only four preset equalizer settings to choose from (Flat, Heavy, Clear, and Soft) are. The only configuration options for the speakers on the rear and center speakers’ delay and volume control to get the best surround effect.
There is another small problem: We were not overly impressed by the sound envelope. Objects from left to right (front or back) were treated well, but after moving objects from front to back or vice versa does not do so smoothly. In fact, it was more like there are two sound fields – one before and one behind – instead of a smooth shell.
It is surrounded by far a bad sound set, but it just does not generate the excitement we like to hear in movie soundtracks.

There is nothing at all wrong with the picture quality. Blu-ray can be played back at 24fps at Full HD 1080p, while DVDs upscaled properly. The player supports the 4:4:4 chroma subsampling Y’CbCr, which is used in high-end film scanners and cinematic postproduction. It should help produce more accurate colors, although the overall effect is highly dependent on your TV functions.
Still, if you thinking about upgrading your telly soon, it’s good to know that this player is able to produce the highest image quality when you need it.
That is, it is difficult to wholeheartedly recommend this product. It’s pretty good value considering all features and it is incredibly easy to set up. But we just did not feel that excited by the sound it produces, leaving us feeling a little flat. The purchase of a separate amplifier and speakers with a powered subwoofer, you will achieve better results, but you must be willing to pay more.
