Klipsch WB-14 Icon Speakers Review
Introduced in June 2008 provides the Klipsch Icon W series of classic Klipsch sound finished in a sophisticated package, including furniture-grade and other high-end touches. Klipsch wanted to create a series of high performance, aesthetically pleasing speaker that the Klipsch name pushed in several areas of the house.
The smallest range in the Icon W line offers two speaker (WF-35 WF-34), a center channel (WC-24) and a surround speaker (WS-24), the $ 599/pair WB-14 has a 1-inch titanium tweeter with a 3.75-inch XT Tractrix horn loaded, and a 4.5-inch high-output, fiberglass cone woofer with a ceramic motor structure, wrapped in a very solid bass-reflex housing finished finished in beautiful espresso or Cabernet. The WB-14 is a threaded insert for easy wall mounting. The line offers a welcome change from the aggressively styled, mostly black, gold and silver-finished models permeates the company’s product line.
The WB-14′s small footprint and 10 pounds of weight makes it easy to place either on a bookshelf or on the floor. The high quality binding posts accommodate banana, spade or bare wire. I also found the bass reflex port on the back of a very elegant and well coupled to the connector panel within a one-piece black plastic fitting with matching flush-mounted screws. In combination with the excellent finish (I particularly like the subtle espresso), I found the whole cosmetics and fit and finish very impressive, with or without magnetic grill.

Sound
Aim to have speaker stands, the WB-14 is not the classic, in-your-face Klipsch sound – which some say is a good thing. The 80-degree by 80 degree round horn sounded a bit tamer than those used in the Klipsch B-3, for example. The little woofer where surprisingly knock, presented a decent midrange and meshed well with the high frequencies. The WB-14 also gave a less directed than the usual presentation of horn designs available, pictures with good space width and depth, and crisply presented.
Klipsch typical sonic signature change here – cooked the zippy balance below the surface – but the inert cabinet structure, stiff conical horn and woofer allows a little more balance than the company’s lesser models with parts that are prone to flip and only exacerbate the hyperactivity. I suspect that many would be “Klipsch in a tuxedo” to welcome. I still do not fully balance the hotter prefer – Horns Horns always will be – but the WB-14 fly much closer to the kind of tonal balance that I listen to. With a very small woofer requires Klipsch, the role of things a bit, and I think they have succeeded.
As with all compact speakers, the WB-14 would certainly benefit a subwoofer. While Klipsch XW-500d recommends his or XW-300d, which would certainly take on other brands as well. I would suggest one with a smaller driver and cabinet to remain in the narrow character with WB-14. While I have not heard, I would look forward to hearing a complete icon home theater setup in a small room. Reached the fine tonal balance is likely to extend over most styles of music, movies and games, and the sexy end in many designs – perfect for a cozy living room.

Pros
- The WB-14 offers a high degree of fit and finish with convenient features like easy installation and high quality binding posts. This product will fit into many decors and neighbors, the front and center in an audio or home theater system to impress.
- The WB-14 offers an attractive balance Sonic offers many of the traditional advantages of horns, but chose another notch, together with a full midrange and tight bass. The small size still throws a great soundstage beyond the speakers and offers big sound in small rooms.
Cons
- The WB-14′s Sonic still balance turns towards zippy side, and perhaps not to the classical, jazz, soft rock appeal, and even quantity. This is a must-audition speaker probably because of higher expectations and crossover appeal in high-end segments that normally do not consider Klipsch for a small monitor application.
- Some buyers may not like the lack of a black finish. The coffee is ready quite dark, but would provide a complete Klipsch Icon for the right set mandate.
Conclusion
I liked the WB-14, more than I thought I would. Klipsch has succeeded, achieved a level of refinement of his typical aggressive intentions and sonic palette. The surface and design are first rate and the performance fit many different types of material, from music, movies, games. An audition is still a must, especially for music lovers and two-channel applications. While the WB-14 is not cheap, Klipsch has brought some game in this market, and creates a very competitive product that you think twice before your purchases simply referred to the Foofy brands.
