Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Sony’s low-cost cover is barely two inches high, but packed with functionality. This year, Sony Bravia unleashed Intenet video that includes a number of online content from the likes of Lovefilm and BBC iPlayer. It is also SACD compatible and enjoys playing all types of digital media stored on a hard drive. And of course it is fully compatible with 3D, thanks to a recent firmware update.

Get on the insubstantial and rather strangely monolithic and you have to admire the compact size of the deck. This could be an advantage if you are out of the room under the TV, but it also makes it feel a little unusual is poor. We are not so keen on the tiny keys and almost invisibly.

All is forgiven when you pick up the remote control though. It is virtually the same phone that comes with luxurious Bravia TV from Sony, so here is clearly a good deal. Flip 3D with Monsters vs. Aliens 3D on Blu-ray and the image changes its shape to the animated scenes from before you haul in a very appealing way. It is a very slight softness to the edges of 3D images that are sharper in the 2D mode, but it’s still a very real 3D effect. Characters to the fore skinny in the room while the background characters appear at some distance behind. It is an essential trick to the whole, are equal to Sony’s 3D TV as it does not work in a similar 3D system from LG.

CONCLUSION

Sony has a lot riding on the success of the 3D, so that we see not surprised it reacted so well on this extremely affordable deck.
