Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 is a significant update to the Panasonic DMC-LX2 and offers ambitious yet useable features within a durable and stylish compact camera. What makes the Lumix DMC-LX3 really stand out is its 24-60mm wide angle 2.5x optical LEICA DC lens which offers an aperture range of F/2.0-F/2.8. The F/2.0 lens is bright which means the LX3 can shoot in low light or at high shutter speeds and still achieve an excellent image. Not only is such a high spec lens unusual for a compact camera, but the LX3 also includes an Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) enabling the user to take a wide range of excellent high quality photographs.
The LX3 offers a 16:9 ratio image which can be changed to a 3:2 and 4:3 ratio when required by flicking a switch on the lens barrel. The camera incorporates a high- resolution 3:2 aspect ratio rear screen as well as a 10.1 megapixel 1/1.63 inch CCD image sensor.

For more advanced users the DMC-LX3 has a wide range of manual settings including exposure control. There are also two custom modes, C1 and C2, which allow you to experiment with different settings and then configure and quickly access your favourites.
For less advanced photography the LX3 has many progressive automatic settings. The Intelligent Auto (iA) uses involved analyses to make intelligent exposure choices including backlight correction. Intelligent Auto automatically selects the best scene mode and ISO speed as well as employing image stabilization and auto focus. The two scene mode positions enable the user to choose between 21 presets, and for ease of use the user can change between two preferred scene settings with just the press of a button. The DMC-LX3 has an anti-shake system that automatically compensates for camera movement which is particularly useful when shooting at slow shutter speeds. There is also a High Sensitivity mode with the camera automatically increasing the ISO speed to help reduce the effects of camera shake. This enables the user to shoot without a flash and therefore achieve a more natural image.

As a compact digital camera the DMC-LX3 suffers from longer shutter and AF lag compared to a DSLR; however, it still operates faster than many other compact digital cameras. When set to high speed continuous mode the LX3 can capture 4 high-resolution JPEG photos at 3.1 frames per second.
As a highly portable compact camera the LX3 is extremely durable with its high quality all metal casing and controls ensuring it is hard wearing. The retro styling harks back to old film cameras, and like older pre-digital cameras it offers a Film mode with 6 colour and 3 monochrome settings. This allows the user to shoot black and white RAW and JPEG files as well as to change the sharpness, contrast, and saturation levels for each film setting.
