Bose Free Space 51 Outdoor Speakers Review

To take home the Bose FreeSpace outdoor speakers to try out, I brought home a reasonable solution to my sound problems in the open.

In contrast to my old stereo speakers, the Bose Free Space 51 speakers are environment-designed for permanent outdoor installation. Their green hulls are a hardened outdoor material that can withstand temperatures to 40 to 158 F, and (after the Owner’s Guide) are also salt spray resistant (so they can be used for marine installations, such as large boats and beach houses).

The speakers have screw holes for secure mounting on the deck. They also have a small opening in the underside of the rim – important when you install the speakers are on a brick or concrete rather than wood. This opening allows to phase out the wires, without the speaker rests on them. SO HEADQUARTERS the speaker flat on the surface and prevents premature wear to the wires’ coating.

Both my college and home setups poor outdoor sound comes from one simple reason – they were sending highly directional sound in a non-directional environment (both in the sense of space and use).

The big question was, of course: What sound do they have? Was it worth the investment in time and money to install the Free Space 51 environmental speakers? As expected, the answer was a resounding yes. The first thing I noticed was that the sound had real presence and spaciousness. The heights were coming through the domed grid surprisingly clear and I could actually hear some tonal detail, I never could get in the open before.

While the best place was to hear the same distance between the two speakers, the sound did not suffer greatly, as I moved across the yard. Walking around the edge of our property, I noticed a change to equilibrium when a speaker was much more to me than the other.
