Sharp HTSB200 Review

The Sharp HT-SB200 is a stereo sound bar which will be an increase in sound quality and volume to each Slimline LCD or Plasma TV. It works seamlessly with the latest LCD TVs from Sharp, and offers good sound quality and bass extension for a low price.

Unpacking the Sharp HT-SB200 Sound Bar from his box, one has the impression it has something left. This sound bar is much smaller than competing home theater speaker systems like the Altec Lansing PT8051 and Philips HTIB6100 weighs only 1.75 kg.

It is 80cm wide and about 6.5 cm high and 7cm deep it does not look out of place near a television. If you team up with the super-thin Sony Bravia KDL40ZX1, which is Sharp HT-SB200 Sound Bar, a similar depth to your wall-LCD or plasma screen. Sharp offers a wall mount included, so installation is no problem.

The system uses a DC power supply, which is quite large and cumbersome, but the included remote control is a small, credit-card-style one. The remote control has only a small number of buttons and it is easy to use. An independent volume and subwoofer level buttons are among the most important controls and other features such as source and switching equalizer can be accessed. The remote control also offers limited control over a compatible Sharp LCD TV – we had no problems using, change volume, source and channels with a Sharp LC-37D53X.

The Sharp HT-SB200 Sound Bar features two separate inputs: one analog RCA input to connect to your TV and a 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting a MP3 player or similar device. Switching between these is simple, although equalizer and volume settings are not unique to each input. If you accidentally hear some quiet MP3s too loud TV commercials, you can be a shock move to.

When it comes to sound quality, the Sharp HT-SB200 Sound Bar will also face its budget price tag. The system offers individual bass and treble controls. In addition to the six-setting bass tuning the system, the subwoofer level is also able to be changed – we are not sure why, since the bass tuning plays a similar role. Surround-sound effects – standard, movie, sports and news – have also various low and high presets.

Treble response from the six integrated speakers is strong and fresh, with noticeable fine detail in our test track. Mid-range was surprisingly strong – given the small speaker in the sound bar – although it sometimes did a little bloated and seem to be muddy. There are only a small amount of true bass extension with the system and unfortunately there is no subwoofer line level output to a dedicated device for a stronger bass to connect.

In smaller quantities of the system sound is slightly uneven, with triple mid-bass notes to prominent and powerful. At maximum power bass drops and heights will be tough, but we doubt much to hear at this level. At normal listening volumes and loud even though the Sharp HT-SB200 Sound Bar with good performance.
