Energy 5.1 Take Classic System Review

The four identical satellite speakers Take Classic are small but well-built young guys that measure approximately 7″ x 4″ x 4″ and weighs about three pounds. Each contains a 3″ poly-titanium woofer and a 3/4″ Hyperbolic aluminum-dome tweeter. They are a rear-ported design and are in a high-gloss black finish, pretty sexy accommodated. They have a very sturdy cloth grill, a slight curve at the top that extends above the top of the speaker , has a touch of style to an otherwise typically boxy speakers. On the back there is a keyhole-style hangers and a threaded insert for wall mounting, and a lot of what I thought at first glance, were stable Push Pin Speaker cable connections, I have been critical of in the past. But on closer inspection, I found that they are miniature five-way binding posts.

I noticed a trend now of higher quality push pins or 5-way mini-plug from some reputable manufacturers such as on this system of energy. Earlier this year, I reviewed a number of satellite speakers NHT and they had very serious push-pins that were actually pretty cool. Energy decided to go with a mini five-way. In view of the system and its expected use, seem appropriate, although if you are a little thicker than 14 gauge wire, you will have problems. The Take Classic center-channel speaker is very similar to the satellites. The ESW-8 subwoofer is a relatively small (approx. 13″) cube, with built-in feet. The box is glossy black, with matching speakers, and has a forward opening, but no grill. There is a tiny blue light just above the port, so you know that it is on. This package contains a small force to shoot down 8″ woofer with patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround one. The sub is powered by a 200 watt amp and has a frequency response from 33-150Hz +/- 3dB. It weighs about 20 pounds.

On the back you will find both speaker level (push pin) inputs, as well as left and right line sub-inputs (RCA jacks). There is a switch-selectable switch (On/Off/Auto) and a phase. The crossover is variable from 40-150Hz, and there is a volume level. Setup was simple, and I had chosen it in very quickly with satisfactory results.
