Satellite Internet Access

Satellite Internet access is a service that uses a satellite dish in order to provide special high speed satellite, always-on Internet connection. It is receiving interest from companies and people who do not subscribe to traditional high-speed Internet access methods such as DSL. This is basically in most areas outside major cities.

Satellite Internet Access

If you can get a clear view of the southern sky, you are using a satellite Internet service, access to the Web, download files, receive streaming media, e-mail and received. Although it is not so cheap and easy to use, such as cable modems or DSL installation in areas not served by them, it’s the best (and only) choice.

Until recently, satellite Internet connection, a-way (the shell) only received data and requires a dial-up modem and telephone line for sending requests and uploading files, the limited performance. But now satellite-Speed Internet allows two-way access (the court sends and receives data), eliminating the need for an additional dial-up modem. The start-up rates have fallen substantially, so affordable in most households and businesses. How fast is satellite internet connection?

Most users can expect download speeds of up to 500kbit s (usually 200Kbps – 400Kbps) and upload speeds to 50Kbps. While this is slower than many cable and DSL connections, it is about 10 times faster than standard dial-up connection.

Potential drawback

Satellite Internet access has noticeable latency. This is the time, the data from your computer to the Internet and travel back through the satellite. Latency for satellite Internet access is usually 500-600ms, compared to 50-150ms for DSL and cable modem. This delay is not important for surfing the Internet, downloading files, streaming audio or video, but can cause problems for latency sensitive applications such as VoIP (Voice over IP) and online games.

Technical Details

WildBlue Satellite Speed Internet is everywhere in the continental United States with a clear view of the southern sky. The system uses two three-foot dish and a satellite modem can send and receive information.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires that all licensed professional two-way satellite Internet access to install the system. The mechanic is on your premises, the installation and makes services.

Everything you need to do is connect your computer with the included Ethernet cable. The system is compatible with PCs and Macs (any device with TCP/IP protocols), and requires no software to install. You need either a 10/100 Ethernet network card or PCMCIA adapter with an Ethernet port. Alternatively, you can use a wireless router and all 802.11g or 802.11b wireless networking devices.

You can easily connect to multiple computers and laptops at home, a single satellite Internet connection at no additional cost. Please note that all the computers on that network sharing a single connection. Simultaneous use of high-bandwidth applications by multiple users may result in degradation of download and surfing speed.
